‘God cherishes detail.’ This phrase by Warburg pushed me (and supported me) in my research on images that have characterised the whole of my production, both during the period when I worked for fashion houses or magazines and for what I have been doing up until now. For ten years I have dedicated myself to personal research which expresses (without restraint) my way of perceiving the world that surrounds me; including its nature and humanity. It (the world) gives back to me upon photographic paper what my sensitivity collects – forms and shapes belonging to elements commonly held to be static like building constructions; or areas of the country without soul but which live and express characteristics and sensations almost similar to a human body, a human muscle or eye.
Starting out with these and other reflections an idea began to be developed whereby I would carry out research on image forms and detail (leaving out interiors – which easily render a subject banal.)
Biography
After having had experience in drawing and painting I approached photography. I was collaborating on a University Journal when I met the Chief Editor of a daily newspaper headed by Enzo Tortora. He wanted me on his Society & Culture section staff.
I was attracted especially by young people’s movements but their violent degeneration made me move away from those kind of images. So I dedicated myself to travel reporting and spent my working hours – even though part time – on my profession working for various fashion magazines. The ‘Press Circle’ of Bologna had me as their guest for a personal exhibition of portraits created while I was travelling around the world. This later was continued by having my works as exhibitions in shop windows of the first pedestrian zone in Bologna.
1977 I open a photographic studio and I dedicate myself exclusively to fashion photography which I am passionate about and which gratifies me when I am appreciated by those Fashion Houses which are continually growing in importance.
1982 Thanks to my collaboration with the magazine Amica and the teachings of great Editors like Paolo Pietroni or Paolo Menon my style, without its being denaturalised, takes on more international connotations. My work is esteemed and requested by other Magazines from fashion publishing houses (Rizzoli, Harper’s Bazaar, Mondadori ....) both in Italy and abroad; as well as by important clothes companies in the fashion in industry.
1992 Deluded by the way fashion was going at that time I veered towards the world of cinema and became involved in working on images for a film. I had a few spouts of being director’s assistant and I photographed various actresses. In particular I was involved in creating an image for Florence Guerin.
1994 I understand that cinema cannot give me the stimuli I am looking for and so I return to fashion photography.
2000 I rediscover the pleasure of ‘image research’ and I diligently apply myself to it.
2002 I begin a series of exhibitions in Italy.
2003 My first monography comes out under ‘Artiere Edizioni Italia’ and it is awarded a prize for best photographic book at the Orvieto International Festival.
2004 My images are in demand for exhibitions in many countries.
2005 While I continue to dedicate myself to research I am called by Bush Publication in Colorado (USA) to work for two magazines (Telluride Style - Melrose Style).
2007 After a year of preparation, though still continuing with fashion, I begin a great season of exhibitions throughout the world.
